Cream Clusters Extra Long Infinity Scarf

Cream Clusters Extra Long Infinity Scarf

Cream Clusters Extra Long Infinity Scarf

I spent the first 13 years of my life growing up in the southern states before my family moved to Pennsylvania.  It was a complete temperature shock.  I was used to sometimes wearing only a light jacket in the winter and I remember getting a new bike for Christmas one year and I was able to go outside on Christmas day in shorts to ride it.

And then the first year we arrived in the North, they got the worst blizzard they had had in…I don’t know how many years.  All I could think of as I looked out our living room window where my mom’s Mustang was buried in white stuff with only the antennae sticking out was, “Where did we just move to?” Dun, Dun, Dun.

It’s funny to think about those days now that I’ve officially been a Northerner for more than twenty-five years. But even still, I have never felt like I completely fit in and I certainly have not changed my preference for warmth!  Even as a teenager when all of my classmates were running around in shorts and hoodies through the snow, I was the one bundled up like we lived in the Arctic.  I still do to this day.  Some things will never change I suppose.

Pennsylvania is mighty cold in the winter. We used to get FEET of snow, but now, all that seems to have tapered off and we’re left with stinking cold temperatures and inches of snow. I don’t know about you, but I hate being cold.

Absolutely despise it.

I have to admit that the snow is beautiful to look at though (through a window 😉 ).  Can’t deny that.  Frozen blue lips…not so much.

So when I have to leave my warm little house, I dress for an arctic expedition.

Even though I didn’t crochet this infinity scarf for myself, I still had my wish for warmth in mind when I designed it. This scarf is made with Caron Simply Soft yarn and is so soft and delightfully squishy—especially when you wrap it around your neck three times!

See! Three times!!!

If you prefer not to dress like an Eskimo, only wrapping it around your neck twice might be sufficiently warm for some people—I won’t judge. This yarn gives it a beautiful drape and it looks like something you could buy in a fancy boutique.

When I look at this set together, I picture a snow queen—someone I will never be! 😉  But that’s Okay.  There are plenty of other people out there who love the cold and adore the snow.  It’s alright that I will never be one of them. This set would also make a great gift for a snow queen in your life or at least someone who is determined not to become a human Popsicle.

It’s the same scarf only shorter and made in a different color. If you like the hat, but don’t want the hole for the messy bun or ponytail, look here for the Navy Clusters Hat.

  • When making the first cluster stitch of a round, the ch 2 counts as the first stage of the cluster. So, ch 2, (YO, insert hook back into same st, YO, draw back through st, YO, draw through 2 loops on hook) twice, YO, draw through all 3 loops on hook, ch 1. This will be indicated by “complete cluster” after instructions to ch 2.

Instructions:

FC: Ch 249

Row 1: In 3rd ch from hook, complete cluster st. (First 2 chs count as ch 2 – see Notes) (Don’t forget to ch 1 to complete every cluster st) *Sk next ch, cluster st in next ch* Repeat from * to * to the end of the chain. (125 clusters)

Taking care not to twist Row 1, sl st in top of first cluster st. Now scarf is a long loop and you will start working in rounds instead of rows.

Round 2: Sl st into ch-1 sp, ch 2, complete cluster. *In next ch-1 sp, cluster st.* Repeat from * to * around. Sl st in the top of first cluster made of round. (125 clusters)

Round 3 – Round 10: Repeat Round 2.

Edging:

Round 11: Ch 1, sc in ea st around, sl st in the top of first sc made of round. (250 sc)

Round 12: Repeat Round 11. Finish off. Weave in end.

Flip work over to work along opposite edge.

Attach yarn and repeat Rounds 11 and 12.
