Leprechaun Hat

Leprechaun hat that is a bowl filled with plastic coins. Bowl has shamrock and buckle.Leprechaun Hat

Hello!

Have you ever wished that you could get your hands on that pesky little leprechaun’s gold at the end of a rainbow? I know I have…even as an adult! Ha! Imagine all the yarn it would buy…. *Sigh*

Okay, back to reality.

This week, I wanted to share a pattern that I designed last year but never got a chance to release. So you may have seen it for sale on Etsy or you may not. I’ve held onto it for a whole year and now it is time for it to be free!

The Leprechaun Hat is fun because it has a solid bottom! Basically, it’s a bowl and you can put whatever you want in it. I found plastic St. Patrick’s Day coins for the photos, however you could also try holiday candy. Have you seen those chocolate candies that are shaped like coins? Amazon sells them here.

Or you can also fit a 4″ diameter candle! (In a jar, please. We don’t want to burn down any buildings 😉 ) I always buy the Yankee candles. I saw this one on Amazon and thought it sounded perfect for a Leprechaun; it’s called Lucky Shamrock! Have you ever smelled it? I haven’t yet, but I’ll certainly be on the look out for it the next time I go shopping for candles! One reviewer said it smelled like fresh-cut grass and clover. Sounds heavenly when you’re surrounded by snow…

This pattern works up quickly and the only stitches you will need to know are the single crochet, double crochet and triple crochet (only for the shamrock). The shamrock would also make an excellent applique for your other crafty projects!

  3. Thank you so much, Mary! To be honest, I got the idea from a basket I saw at a friends house. It was shaped like a Snowman’s Hat. That crochet pattern does exist. I created it this past December. I just put a link to it in the Leprechaun Hat pattern so that other people would be able to find it too. I’m so glad that you like it and you are absolutely right about changing the Leprechaun Hat to a Snowman Hat. It’s just a color change and decorations! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy your much cheaper Snowman Hat! 🙂

  4. This is so cute. At Christmas, I saw a snowman hat basket and went on eBay to see if cI ould buy one and the basket and shipping was way too expensive so I did not purchase it. Sigh. Now I see your leprechaun hat and think, wow, that would be a perfect pattern for a snowman hat, all I would need to do is change the colors from green to black with a red hat band and some Xmas greenery instead of the shamrock. I can’t wait to try it! Thank you so much. You are so clever!

  5. You’re welcome, Lisa! I’m so glad that you enjoyed making the hat and the idea of the coasters is brilliant! Thank you for sharing your idea!

  7. Super cute! I’m always looking for little things to do or make for the holidays that aren’t Christmas or Easter…. Something easy, cute, and able to be stored easily! This little hat is adorable!
