Easter Egg Appliques

Easter egg appliques - various flat easter eggs in bright spring colors and using embroidery techniques to decorate themEaster Egg Appliques

Happy almost Easter!

Isn’t it fun to decorate the eggs at Easter time? My boys always have a blast making a huge mess all over my kitchen table, dye and vinegar everywhere! I don’t mind though. It’s fun just watching them have fun.

So does anyone else have a lot of children or grandchildren that want more than one egg to dye? I’m asking because I usually have to hard boil 6 eggs each for three boys so they get their fill of coloring. That’s a lot of eggs!

How many eggs do you allot per child? Let me know in the comments below.

Is it just me or does your coloring always seem to get beyond the shell and dye the interior egg? We typically end up having a couple of egg friendly meals that week just to use them up and there’s nothing better than rainbow colored egg salad sandwiches! Ha!

So today I’ve designed some Easter Egg Appliques that skip the mess and hassle. Originally, these sweet little Easter Eggs were a part of my Easter Wreath pattern that you can see at the link. But, I just thought they were way too cute to keep for just the one project.

There are so many ways you can use these. For instance, they would be so cute on hats, scarves, blankets, baskets, the back of gloves or mittens, bags, treat bags ( I have a cute little pattern that you can use as a base for a treat bag, just put the eggs on instead of the clover. You can see that pattern here.), etc. Anything you can imagine really!

They are super easy to make and to decorate, I used some very basic embroidery techniques. I’ve even linked to a very short video that shows how to create the lazy daisy stitch. But, I encourage you to get creative! Decorate them however you wish!

Finishing

Decorate the eggs as you wish with yarn and a tapestry needle.

The eggs with the colored dots where made by stitching an “X” and then a “+” in the same space.

One has little “V”’s, one is stitched zig zag lines and the last is an embroidery technique for basic flowers called the Lazy Daisy.

There is a super short video by Fave Crafts at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYzTMr9OPQU that demonstrates the easy stitch.
