Galley Towel Set

Galley Towel Set all three folded laying together

Oh my is the Galley Towel Set a joy to crochet! I loved working with the different stitches. It’s basically three patterns in one! You can make just one of the three, two of the three or all three designs.

This post may contain affiliate links for products I use and recommend. If you make a purchase through one of my links, I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. For more information, please see my disclosure policy.

And wouldn’t this set be an amazing housewarming gift? Or how about a hostess gift this holiday season? Just fold the towels in neat little squares and wrap with your favorite ribbon for a thoughtful and useful gift!

These hand towels would look wonderful in your kitchen or bathroom. They are thick and the Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton yarn makes them feel luxurious!

You can customize the colors to match your decor or to match the decor of the person you’re gifting them to. Or, even better, crochet them in holiday colors! Yep, that’s an awesome idea and I think I’ll be making another set here real soon in red, white and green for Christmas. So fun!

The stitches required for the Galley Towel Set are easy and I’ve included photo tutorials for certain steps just to clarify my meaning. I took so many photos, but there is no way I can add them all to this blog post. Also, these towels have not been blocked…just so you know.

If you decide to purchase the ad-free, large print PDF that is located at the bottom of this blog post, you will receive 2 PDF’s. One contains the main instructions with only one photo for ease of printing. The second PDF contains the tutorial photos so you have the choice to print them out or not.

You could also shorten these and make dish drying mats or mats for under your pet food and water dishes. I’ve included the necessary starting chain information if you would like to make these stitch patterns smaller as in for a washcloth or larger for wraps/shawls or blankets. See the “Notes” section of the pattern for more information.

Galley Towel Set

Materials Used:

Finished Size Approximately:

14” Width x 22” Length

Gauge:

18 double crochet stitches and 7 rows in a 4” (10cm) square.

Special Stitches:

Double Crochet 4 Together (dc4tog)

For Row 1: YO, insert hook into indicated st, YO and draw back through, YO and draw through two loops. *YO and insert hook into next st, YO and draw back through, YO and draw through two loops* Repeat from * to * 2 more times. YO and draw through all 5 loops on hook.

Note: After Row 1, you will work the dc4tog into the ch-3 spaces from the previous row. Not individual stitches.

Abbreviations:

YO – yarn over

FC – foundation chain

ch(s) – chain(s)

st(s) – stitch(es)

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

dc4tog – double crochet 4 together

sl st – slip stitch

Notes:

  • For the side saddle stitch towel (navy): The instructions in the “Special Stitches” section above indicate to insert your hook into individual stitches. Those instructions are for Row 1 only. All other instructions for the dc4tog after Row 1 are to work these stitches into the ch-3 space from the previous row and not individual stitches.
  • For the check stitch towel: There is an extra row of sc as the last row of the towel. This was done because the opposite end of the towel has 4 rows and the top would need 4 rows as well to match. You can use the (sc, ch 2) repeat across that was used throughout the pattern, but it will give the one side a scalloped look. Also, there is no border on this towel, but you can add one if you wish.
  • For the check stitch towel: For Row 2, the sc sts are worked between dc posts rather than in the top of the sts.
  • For the side saddle stitch towel (navy): If you’d like to adjust the width, you will need a multiple of 5 chs + 2.
  • For the check stitch towel (white): If you’d like to adjust the width, you will need a multiple of 2 chs.
  • For the V-stitch/sc towel (silver): If you’d like to adjust the width, you will need a multiple of 2 chs + 1.

*** American crochet terms used throughout.
