Mint Dream Tee

Hello there!

I hope you enjoy easy clothing patterns, because I have a great one for you today! If you can single crochet and double crochet and make two rectangles, then you can definitely make the boat neck Mint Dream Tee.

I have been dying to use the Lion Brand Mandala cake yarn that I’ve been seeing in the stores and all over the internet and I finally got my chance. I’m not an affiliate for Lion Brand or anything, but I just wanted to say that this yarn is awesome! It’s a size three light weight acrylic yarn, which I think is perfect for warm weather wearables. Even though it’s not cotton, it’s still so light and not the least bit scratchy. I can’t wait to see what else I can design using these cake yarns.

To get the colors to match up on the front panel and the back panel, I actually dug through the entire yarn display to find two cakes that were close in starting and ending colors. I’m goofy like that.

Now I apologize for this sweater not being displayed on a real human. The truth is that I have challenged myself to lose 40 pounds and I purposely made the sweater the size I’d like to be. I think that it gives me another really good reason to lose the weight, because then I can fit into my new clothes! Once I achieve my goal, I will take some photos of me actually wearing it. Wish me luck! πŸ™‚

The Mint Dream Tee is available in sizes Small – 3XL, but you could easily modify it if you needed a smaller or larger size. You’re beginning chains need to be a multiple of 8 +1. If you’d like an extra small, take the starting chain for a Small and subtract 8. If you’d like a 4XL, take the starting chain for the 3XL and add 8.

And — bonus! You can totally make this sleeveless! Simply skip the section for adding sleeves. I actually had a difficult time deciding if I even wanted to put sleeves on it. It looks really cute without them too.

Do you prefer your shirts with sleeves or without? Let me know in the comments below.

I really enjoyed making this one and I hope you do too!

Materials Used:

Gauge:

16 double crochet stitches and 8 rows in a 4” (10cm) square.

Abbreviations:

FC – foundation chain
ch(s) – chain(s)
st(s) – stitch(es)
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
sl st – slip stitch
WS – wrong side

Notes:

  • This Mint Dream Tee is constructed of two rectangular panels that are stitched together using a tapestry needle and yarn. Then the sleeves are crocheted onto the sweater body.
  • The sleeves are optional. If you prefer a sleeveless sweater, skip the sleeve instructions.
  • This pattern uses a multiple of eight chains plus one if you are interested in using it for other projects or would like a smaller or larger sweater than what is given.
  • The example sweater is a large.
  • There is a chart with approximate panel measurements at the end of the pattern. Check that the length of the tee will be right for you. I sometimes forget that I have a longer torso and my clothing comes out long on some women. If this is the case for you, simply omit enough rows to achieve your desired length. No other measurements would need altered.
  • You can block your panels if desired. The example is not blocked.
  • Sizing is written as Small with Medium, Large, XL, 2XL, 3XL written in parenthesis for the foundation chain. All other counts are written in parenthesis in order (S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL). I recommend using a highlighter or circling your size throughout the pattern to avoid confusion.

*** American crochet terms used throughout.

  1. I agree! This would be lovely in a 3/4 sleeve! Might have to try that some time. If you get to it before me, I’d love to see your work. You can tag me @highlandhickorydesigns on social media or email me at highlandhickorydesigns@gmail.com. Thanks for commenting!

  2. I would love to see this top with Three Quarter wirh it also if you wanted to make them long sleeve you could

  3. Thank you so much, Danielle! I’m so glad that you love my patterns! I love your idea of a sleeveless for winter. You could absolutely leave the sleeves off of this pattern if you wanted to and then be able to wear it with a turtle neck. You could also use more winter friendly colors! Thanks for commenting!

  4. I LOVE your patterns! Good job. As a thought..how about sleeveless for winter and then just wear a turtleneck underneath. With sleeves for a summer one with a white tank top. Anyway, they sure are beautiful.

  5. Aww! I feel the same way about my overweight arms. I’m so glad that you love the sleeves! Thanks for commenting!

  6. I love that you put sleeves on it!!! I very rarely wear sleeveless anymore due to the old age flab. ☺️

  7. Hi Mary! I’m so glad to hear that you like the pattern! Okay, so I did some figuring and made a swatch. When I used the I hook and the size 3 yarn, the swatch came out 2 sizes too big. So what you would need to do, assuming that you are using the size 3 yarn, is take 16 chains away from the foundation chain of whatever size you are making. For instance, if you are making a large tee that requires a foundation chain of 97, you would chain 81. Also, watch your length. I would crochet the number of rows given for 2 sizes smaller than what you are making. I hope this helps! If you have any more questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

  8. That is a cute pattern, what size would I end up with it I used an i hook, g hook is to small for me to use? Thank you for your cute patterns.
