Thanksgiving Wreath

Thanksgiving Wreath It’s November! Can you believe it? And I’m here today to give you a turkey that you can stuff BEFORE the big day! This post may contain affiliate links for products I use and recommend. If you make a purchase through one of my links, I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. Thank you for supporting my small business! For more information, please see my disclosure policy. This Thanksgiving wreath was a whole heap of fun to make! I just enjoyed every minute of it and I’m so proud of how it came out. It did take some time to complete since there were so many little parts to crochet. That’s why I wanted to give it to you as soon as possible so you would have plenty of time to create one. So last night, my Thanksgiving wreath was done and it looked like the photo below. But then, when my husband saw it, he thought that the belly looked too plain, especially since there was so much detail in his upper body. He suggested wings holding a pumpkin. Although it was a good idea, I was still frustrated because I thought I was finished. Ha! Tell me what you prefer on the Thanksgiving Wreath turkey belly in the comments below? Wings and pumpkin? Or plain? The stitches are easy and I’ve included plenty of tutorial photos to help you along. The color striped spirals are wrapped around an 18″ wire wreath frame that you can purchase at this link. (I receive a small percentage of any purchases made from this page at no extra cost to you and it helps me to keep providing free patterns for you to enjoy! So thank you!) You even have the option to crochet around craft/floral wire for the turkey’s feet so that they don’t twist and curl. Originally, I tried to block them, but I just couldn’t get it to look right. So after some thought, I came up with crocheting over wire and guess what…it worked! But like I said before, it is optional. You don’t have to include this step. All of the turkey pieces are crocheted separately and then stitched into place on the turkey body using a tapestry needle and yarn. The body is constructed of a front panel and back panel that are sewed together using yarn and lightly stuffed with Poly-fil. The turkey body pillow is then stitched to the main Thanksgiving wreath using yarn and a tapestry needle. The connection points are across the top of his hat that is stitched to the light sage stripe of the Thanksgiving wreath body and along his bottom that is stitched to the brown stripe of the Thanksgiving wreath body. The feet are crocheted over floral wire to help them keep their shape. This is optional, but there are photos to illustrate the instructions. The pumpkin pattern has more tutorial photos if you need them at this link. *** American crochet terms used throughout. Instructions: Thanksgiving Wreath Body Stripes Make: 4 Cranberry 3 Burnt Pumpkin 3 Sungold 3 Light Sage 2 Brown FC: Ch 101 Row 1: In 5th ch from hook, dc (V-st was made); continue to V-st in every ch across to the end. Turn. Row 2: Ch 1. Sc in ch-1 sp, *shell st in next ch-1 sp, sc in next ch-1 sp* Repeat from * to * across. Finish off. Note: If for some reason, your counts are off and you end with a shell stitch instead of a single crochet, only work 3 dc’s into the last ch-1 sp and then finish off. It won’t affect the outcome. The color pattern for the example is: 2 Brown together and then *Cranberry, Sungold, Light Sage and Burnt Pumpkin.* Repeat from * to * with Cranberry being your final stripe ending up next to the Brown you started with. Finishing Begin with the Brown and wrap around the wire wreath form making sure that the FC is the part that is touching the wire form so that the shells are facing outward. Once the Brown is wrapped, get your next color – the Cranberry. Using a tapestry needle and the tails from finishing off, stitch the two ends together (Brown to Cranberry) and begin wrapping the Cranberry. Repeat with all of the stripes. Stitch your final Cranberry stripe to your first Brown stripe. Fluff and adjust your stripes until the middle light sage stripe is directly above the Brown. These are your two centers and will be your placement for stitching your turkey body on later. Turkey Body With Brown and I hook Make 2 FC: Ch 21 Row 1: In 2nd ch from hook, sc. Sc in next 19 sts.
