Wavy Shells Pocket Scarf

I’ll be honest, I was supposed to design this pattern almost two years ago. Whoops! It was one of those patterns that I wasn’t committed to the design. So I started it and got about two-thirds of the way finished and put it down. It’s been tucked in my yarn cabinet ever since. (Which explains the deep wrinkles on the one side. Ha! The scarf isn’t blocked either.)

The other day when I was going through my stash, I found it and decided that it was high time I finished this little baby and I am so glad I did!

The pockets are seven and a half inches deep, which is awesome for warming your hands, holding your cell phone or keys! Obviously, you don’t have to fold the ends into pockets. You can always leave them hanging for a beautiful scalloped edge. Your choice!

Finishing

Fold both shell pockets over making sure they are folded over to the same side of the scarf and pin to secure as shown in the photo below. Also, make sure you are pinning your pockets to the same row on the scarf to ensure your pockets are straight. (The pocket is crooked in the photo, but it was just a demonstration. They were straightened when they were stitched.)

Blue dots are where to place pins to secure pocket. Orange line is where to stitch sc trim.

With Dark Country Blue and G/6 (4.25 mm) crochet hook

Beginning on one end of the scarf and with the pocket facing you, attach your yarn through BOTH thicknesses of the pocket AND main body of the scarf. Sc evenly to secure the pocket to the scarf and then continue to sc evenly through the single thickness of just the scarf to create a border along the rough edge.

Once you come to the next pocket on the opposite end of the scarf (which should be pinned in place), crochet through both thicknesses as you have done with the first pocket. When you reach the corner, finish off. Weave in ends.

Repeat this process for the opposite edge of the scarf.
