Weekender Headband

Weekender Headband woman wearing headband looking down

What better way to prepare for the coming weekend than with the Weekender Headband!

This headband has a lacy, sophisticated stitch pattern and, just to make sure it fits securely around the head for all sizes, it ties in the back. Or front, if you prefer. It’s available in sizes Baby – Adult!

The stitch pattern isn’t very difficult. You won’t even have to cut your thread because the entire thing is made in one piece. Beginning at the end of one of the ties, you will work your way to the opposite end. From there, you will crochet a border around the entire headband.

I used a size 3 crochet thread for this project as well as an F/5 (3.75 mm) crochet hook. The size 3 thread isn’t nearly as delicate as the size 1, thank goodness, but it is definitely smaller than, say, worsted weight yarn.

If you crocheted the Weekender Headband in anything larger than the size 3 thread, please keep in mind that your finished product will be much larger than the example.

There are so many options for using this pattern as well. You can wear it anywhere really…out to dinner, sailing, weddings, night on the town, hanging out at the lake… I could go on and on, but I won’t. I’m sure you get the idea. Ha!

I’ve also created and included a stitch chart that you will find at the bottom of this blog post.

As always, if you ever have any questions or issues with this or any of my patterns, please feel free to email me at highlandhickorydesigns@gmail.com for one on one help. Thanks!

FC – foundation chain (beginning chain)

st(s) – stitch(es)

ch(s) – chain(s)

sc – single crochet

sc2tog – single crochet 2 together

dc – double crochet

sl st – slip stitch

Notes:

  • Don’t forget to ch 1 after every 5-dc cluster st to close it off. When the instructions say to “5-dc cluster st, ch 1,” the ch 1, is not referring to the closing st of the 5-dc cluster. So what you’re really doing is working the 5-dc cluster st (ch 1 to close it) then ch 1 again.
  • Do not finish off until the very end of pattern. The Weekender Headband is worked all in one piece.

*** American crochet terms used throughout.

Row 27 – Row See sizes below: Continue to alternate Rows 25 and 26 for pattern ending with a Row 25 repeat.

Note: The Weekender headband stretches. The example’s center stitches (not including the ties) is 21” and it fits my 23” head. Basically, you want the center stitches to fit perfectly around the head without being too tight or too loose. Don’t include the ties in your measurements.

21” – Row 79

22” – Row 81

23” – Row 83

CHILD SIZES

Baby – end center stitches on Row 50

Toddler – end on Row 67

Child – end on Row 73

Tween – end on Row 77

Note: We will start over at Row 1 for the remaining tie simply because the ending row for each size above is different. You will not finish off after your final row of the pattern above, just continue on with Row 1 below.

2nd Tie

Row 1 – Row 6: Ch 1, sc in every st across. Turn. (7 sc)

Row 14 – Row 18: Ch 1, sc in every st across. Turn. (5 sc)

Row 19: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 3 sts. Turn. (4 sc)

Row 20 – Row 24: Ch 1, sc in every st across. Turn. (4 sc)

Do not finish off.

Border

Note: The picots (ch 3’s) around the border are optional. If you would prefer, you can omit them and simply single crochet around the entire border.

Round 1: Ch 1, sc in the same st the ch 1 comes out of, sc in next 2 sts, 3 sc in next st (corner made), sc evenly to where the tie meets the 1st 5-dc cluster. *sc in the side of the upper portion of the dc st at the end of the 5-dc cluster row as shown in the photo below, (2 sc, ch 3, sc) in the lower portion of that same dc st.* Repeat from * to * across.

Once you get to the next tie, sc evenly to the corner, work 3 sc in corner st, sc in next 2 sts, work 3 sc in next corner st. Sc evenly to where the tie meets the 1st ch-3 of the center stitches. You will be working your next sts into those 3 chs along the side of the 5-dc cluster rows. See photo below. *Sc in the first ch, ch 3, 2 sc in next ch, sc in 3rd ch* Repeat from * to * across. Once you get to the 1st tie, sc evenly to the corner, work 2 sc in corner st. Sl st into 1st sc made of round.

Finish off. Weave in ends.

Stitch Chart for Center Stitches

Note: The pattern doesn’t widen like the chart above. That is just the way the stitch chart laid out. You will always have 3 groups of 5-dc clusters for one row and you will always have 7 sc for the 2nd row. Also, the oval attached to the top of the 5-dc cluster stitch indicates the ch 1 needed to close it.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the Weekender Headband pattern!
